What is now known as Queen City park began as summer cottage vacation spots along the Central Vermont Railroad beginning in the Civil War era. After upkeep became too expensive, the railroad sold it to the Vermont Spiritualists Association. The Spiritualists made it a true thriving summer community spot. It burned down in 1939, but a subset of the Spiritualist community became the Queen City Park Association.
