2024 VHS Annual Meeting Information
186th VHS Annual Meeting
October 17, 2024
12:00 pm
Vermont History Center, Barre & Virtual via Zoom
The Board of Trustees of the Vermont Historical Society welcomes you to our annual meeting! You can attend this hybrid meeting either in person at the History Center in Barre, or virtually via Zoom. Registration is required, please register below.
Our keynote speaker, J. Kevin Graffagnino, has written and spoken widely on various aspects of Vermont's history. He served as curator of the Wilbur Collection at UVM's Special Collections Library from 1978 to 1995 and as Executive Director of the VHS from 2003 to 2008. He is the author of Ira Allen: A Biography, a new full-length biography published by the Vermont Historical Society in September 2024.
Land speculator, revolutionary, empire builder, and tireless defender of independent Vermont, Ira Allen played a major role in our state's formative decades. Opinions of Allen varied in his own time and subsequent generations have found much to criticize, but his checkered career illuminates Vermont from 1770 to 1810. J. Kevin Graffagnino will deliver this year’s annual address, in which he will speak on the life of this controversial and influential early Vermont leader.
VHS members attending the Annual Meeting both remotely and in person will have the opportunity to ask Kevin questions after the talk. Those at the History Center will enjoy continued opportunity to speak with Kevin about his book, purchase a signed copy, view our new Research and Exhibition Gallery, and enjoy some light refreshments. You can preorder your copy of the book here and you can read an interview with Graffagnino here.
