Active Collections Resource Center

Welcome to Vermont Historical Society's Active Collections Resource Center!

This resource center builds on our Activating 21st Century Local History Training Program. Local historical societies and museums are encouraged to use these guides and resources to implement Active Collections in their organizations. 

If you're not sure where to start, use our resource guides below. Search all resources if you're looking for help with a specific issue. 

This project was originally funded by a grant from the Institute of Museum & Library Services (IMLS) in August 2024. The application was peer reviewed and approved in alignment with agency and grant program goals and the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) by the director of IMLS and fully funded by congressionally appropriated funds in the year it was awarded. In April 2025, we received notice that the grant was terminated with approximately $140,000 of the award still outstanding. You can read the termination letter here.
