The Research and Exhibition Gallery
The Vermont Historical Society’s Research and Exhibition Gallery (REG) is an open storage gallery at the Vermont History Center in Barre. The REG offers visitors access to hundreds of items from the collections that would otherwise remain unavailable to the public. Funded by a federal grant and developed as an active commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the REG offers Vermonters and Vermonters-at-heart a chance to reflect on several themes that correlate with the original themes of the 250th celebration: Unfinished Revolutions, American Experiment, We the People, and the Power of Place.
Items are marked with QR codes so that visitors can identify the objects and consider the stories that they tell. Visitors are encouraged to open drawers and view cases, making connections between the displayed items. As part of our commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States and then of Vermont, we are continuing work to photograph, catalogue, and display items in the REG and the VHS collection, with the goal of offering online access to our entire collection of 30,000 items.
