Brookfield's floating bridge is one of a small number of floating bridges in the United States. Crossing Sunset Lake, the town's first floating bridge was built around 1820 on top of the frozen Sunset Lake, and subsequent bridges have improved upon the technology. The current wooden bridge was restored in the last decade as an historic preservation project.
