Vermont's Eugenics Movement
One of Vermont's darkest chapters is its participation in the eugenics movement, which the state of Vermont put laws into effect that allowed for marriage restrictions, sterilizations, and other harmful policies against "undesirable" people within the state.
In this episode of This Place in History, ABC 22 & Fox 44 anchor Mike Hoey chats with Mercedes de Guardiola, the author of "Vermont for the Vermonters": The History of Eugenics in the Green Mountain State to learn more about the movement and its consequences.
