Ceres II
Ceres II, the second statue to top the state house, was designed and carved by Sergeant at Arms of the Vermont State House, Dwight Dwinell in the 1930s. As an amateur carver, Dwinell gave Ceres II has a much rougher, folk art look. She remained on the state house for 80 years, until she began to rot.
