Thaddeus Stevens
Thaddeus Stevens spent his childhood in Danville before moving to Pennsylvania as a young man. He was elected to Congress and was a staunch abolitionist and early member of the Republican Party. He actively supported the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the Constitution to end slavery in the United States.
