Hardwick Granite Industry
Hardwick, Vermont once had a booming economy centering around the granite industry, as evidenced by the Memorial Building- a beautiful granite building built in 1911 for what would today be half a million dollars. The first granite shed went in right after the Civil War, and it remained a significant part of the economy until after World War I, when granite began to go out of style.
