The Joseph Smith Birthplace recognizes the importance of Joseph Smith, the founder of the Church of Latter-day Saints. After moving to New York, Smith prayed to God and received the Golden Plates which he translated into what now is the Book of Mormon. Smith was martyred in Illinois.
