Pierce’s General Store was opened in 1865 by Nathaniel Jones Aldrich. For most of the 20th Century the Pierce family, who were Aldrich relatives, ran the store. It was eventually bequeathed to the Preservation Trust of Vermont, who put out a call for proposals to continue its operation. A group of Shrewsbury residents formed a co-op and now run the store.
