The Billings Women and Vermont's National Park
The Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Park is the only National Park within the state of Vermont. Inspired by Conservationist George Perkins-Marsh, Frederick Billings decided to set up a model farm to showcase new agricultural practices, and his farm stayed within the family. His daughters were keenly interested in biology and agriculture, and worked to reforest the area. Billings' granddaughter, Mary French married John D. Rockefeller's grandson Lawrence, and they preserved the home and eventually turned it over to the National Park Service in 1992.
