Description
Carved wooden carousel horse. The horse is brown with a black mane and tail and is shown leaping. It is wearing a gold and green bridle with a leather rein. The saddle is green and gold and the saddle blankets are blue. The Vermont state seal and the dates 1791-1991 are painted on the side. A gold pole runs up the center of the horse. The pole is set into a large wooden cross base.

Made to celebration the bicentennial of Vermont's Statehood.

Catamount Stadium Sign, c. 1970 Milton, VT Plywood, paint Gift of Thunder Road International Speedbowl / American Canadian Tour, 2020.10.1 Catamount Stadium stood in Milton from 1965 to 1987, and this large sign was used to direct travelers. Catamount was beloved by racers for its attention to detail and up-to-date facilities, and was nicknamed “home of the brave.” This sign is on view for the first time since the track’s closing in 1987.

Description
Large, oval plywood sign. The sign is painted white with the black inscription, "CATAMOUNT STADIUM". The ends of the oval are cut off to create straight edges, and are painted with yellow vertical stripes.

Herman Burbridge practiced dentistry in Woodstock during the late 1890s and early 1900s. This wooden sign was a popular style during the late 1900s and is characterized by the sandpaper finish and gilt lettering. It was done by a professional sign painter, who we only know by his initials, EPT.

Description
Large sign with "UNION GRANITE MEMORIALS" in block print. Constructed of one large piece of masonite on front, nailed to wooden framing on back. Wooden framing made up of 1 3/4"w x 3/16"d by various length pieces. Background is painted white, lettering in black painted block letters. At back on top left and top right, rusted metal pieces screwed to framing for hanging hardware. Due to wear pattern on back of wood, there appear to have been 5 more of these at one time, at the midway point top and bottom and on the bottom left and right corners. Two modern hangers attached to back. Painted over another sign, (white background, blue border with blue letters) showing through peeling paint.

This sign is similar in age to the other toll road sign in this exhibit dating from the early 1800s. It was used at Toll Gate No. 4 in Stockbridge on the road between Middlebury and Woodstock. It may have hung on the old Cobb Bridge in Stockbridge which was near the donor's home.

White-painted wooden sign. The sign is stenciled with gate toll rates based on vehicle type, including types of carriages and carts pulled by various animals.
Context
Said to have been used on the road through Stockbridge, Vermont, possibly at the Old Cobb Bridge.
