Vermont Historical Society welcomes three new staff members

The Vermont Historical Society recently welcomed three new members to its staff — Steve Picazio (Librarian), Kate Malmstrom (Program Assistant), and Hannah Kirkpatrick (Program Coordinator).

Picazio joins the VHS from Vermont State Archives and Records Administration, where he served as a Records and Information Management Specialist from 2022 to August 2024. Prior to that, he was the Head Circulation Librarian at Montpelier’s Kellogg-Hubbard Library. In his new role, he will oversee the Vermont Historical Society’s Howard & Alba Leahy Library at the Vermont History Center in Barre, where he will focus on increasing access to the collections of the library and finding ways to shed new light onto stories from Vermont's history that are not often told.

Malmstrom joined the Vermont Historical Society in May. She graduated from the University of Vermont with a degree in Art History and Philosophy and has worked in a variety of educational settings, including classrooms and national youth non-profits. She will assist educational programming at the Vermont Historical Society Museum in Montpelier.

Kirkpatrick joins VHS in October from the Center for Community News. A graduate of the University of Vermont with an MA in History, she will be working as VHS’s Program Coordinator, overseeing a program to train volunteer staff at historical societies around the state. She previously worked as an intern at VHS.
