Context
This very well preserved “point blanket” was found in Stowe, Vermont and is exceedingly interesting. First, although well preserved, it had much of the wool nap worn from it compared to standard Hudson Bay and Whitney blankets that commonly came out of closets and cedar chests in turn of the century camps along Lake Champlain. Second, the “point” was inked in with indigo, indicating that the value could be assigned by the trader, something never seen in the later 19th and 20th century “Point” blankets. This was evidence of antiquity.
