Description
A yellow protest sign (a) with black text that reads, "PRESERVE MARRIAGE". Above, two black hearts are interlinked. The left heart reads, "One Man" in black Times New Roman-style font, and the right heart reads, "One Woman" in a black cursive-style font. The sign is double sided and says the same thing on both sides. It is mounted to a wooden post (b) that one would hold in a rally.
Context
This sign was used to protest civil unions for same-sex couples. On April 26, 2000, Vermont passed a law allowing same-sex couples to receive the same benefits as heterosexual couples. Governor Dean signed the bill and it went into effect July 1, 2000.

Description
A white yard sign (a) with the words "DEAN'S ACT 60" printed in read letters and crossed out by a red prohibited sign. The bottom text reads, "VOTE DWYER" in white letters and is outlined by a red box. The sign is double-sided and has the same message on both sides. On one side there is a small sticker that reads, "Paid for by Dwyer '98/P.O Box 1998/Montpelier, Vt 05601". The sign is attached to metal stakes (b) that would be pushed into the ground.
Context
Dean's Act 60 was an equal education act passed by Governor Howard Dean in 1997. The acted created a statewide school tax that would then be collected and distributed equally between every Vermont school in order to prevent wealthier towns from having better educational opportunity due to their higher rates of funding. Ruth Dwyer was a Republican politician who unsuccessfully ran for Governor in both 1998 and 2000 and subsequently lost to Howard Dean both years.

The front of the sign is oriented vertically and is hand-decorated with permanent markers with an outline silhouette of Donald Trump with a red tie extending from his collar to the bottom edge of the sign. The top of the sign bears the date, "1, 20, 21" in permanent marker, with pencil marks from drafting the design visible behind. The bottom of the sign bears the inscription, "THE END OF AN ERROR". The back of the sign is oriented horizontally and commercially printed with an alarm clock, the number 4, a wooden block with the letter M, and peach, and a wrapped mint candy ("Time for impeachment").

The Frost Heaves were a basketball team founded by Vermont resident and Sport Illustrated writer, Alexander Wolff. The team was founded in 2005 and disbanded in 2011 due to lack of funding.

Proposal 2 was a suggested amendment to the Vermont constitution that would prohibit slavery and indentured servitude in any context. Previously, the Vermont constitution prohibited slavery, "unless bound by the person’s own consent,after arriving to such age, or bound by law for the payment of debts, damages, fines, costs, or the like" starting in 1777.
