Outside of tin is painted white and the printing and litho are in an evergreen color.

Decorative Plate

The item being described is a souvenir plate with a blue-and-white color scheme. The plate features nautical scenes depicted in vignettes, bordered with rococo swirls. Among the scenes on the plate are a ship captain in the center, surrounded by four ferry ships, and a lighthouse positioned at the top center. At the bottom center of the plate, there is an inscription that reads "BEAUTIFUL LAKE CHAMPLAIN" within a banner.

The duck has a cork body and a pre-made head that is man-made material and has a seam that goes over the head and and around it. The cork body is oval and has a slightly pointed 'tail' end. The cork is attached to a piece of wood (.69" thick) by nails. A screw eye is in the wood 2" from the front. A lead weight has been nailed down the center of the bottom
(5.88"l x 1"w) . The 'lead anchor' is oval with 5/8" finger tips coming off each shoulder of the oval.

Eggbeater

Metal eggbeater with wooden grip and turning handle. The eggbeater has two whisks or beaters that turn with a cranked central wheel. The beaters have a round shaped with 4 curved steel blades attached to a single post in the center. The drive wheel has a series of openings pierced around the edge. One side of the wheel is stamped with the label, "EDLUND COMPANY / BURLINGTON, VT. / PATENT NO. 1789224 - OTHER PAT. PENDING / MADE IN THE U.S.A."

Eyeglasses Case

Metal case, flat khaki in color, used to keep safety goggles. Paper label on the top, center: "Stock No. 74-G-79-40. / GOGGLE, VARIABLE-DENSITY / COMPLETE / CONTENTS: ONE SET / 3781" Lid / cover hinges in the back and clips closed. Rust is now detering closure.

Geiger Counter

Yellow geiger counter and instruction manual. The counter has a rectangular yellow case with curved ends. Each long side has a log consisting of a white triangle inside a blue circle with the letters "CD" in red. A dial on the top has a numerical range from 0 to 0.5., and is encased beneath a plastic cover, held on with screws. The printing on the top of the case reads, "FCDA / ITEM NO. / CD V-700 / MODEL NO. 3 / SERIAL NO. / 667 / MFRD. FOR / FCDA BY / CHATHAM / ELECTRONICS / LIVINGSTON / NEW JERSEY". There are two black plastic knobs and a yellow plastic plug on the top of the case. A U-shaped bar extends from the case to act a both a handle and a holster for a silver-toned tube, connected to the case by a rubber-encased cord, and capped on either end with rubber. The counter is accompanied by a 15-page manual entitled "Radiological Survey Meter / FCDA ITEM NO. CD V-700" printed in black and white on glossy paper.

The top has 3 black dials and one silver one. The handle is built onto the top of the piece and the lid is held to the base with 4 screws, one on each corner. On the end of the two short sides are 2 "D" rings each side. No wand.

Dr. Oscar S. Peterson, Jr. was the radiological officer for the State Civil Defense Agency from the 1950s to early 1970s. This Geiger counter was part of his personal kit, meant to investigate any nuclear fallout.

Goggles

Safety goggles used, presumably, by Dr. Peterson and two replacement filters. Google search identified as being used druing WWII by the Air Force. The goggles are black rubber with a green strap attached to the rubber by metal ladder lock buckle. The red filters attach to the goggles at the center top edge of the goggles. The two spare filters have handwriting (by the same person) in both the center of the lower edge "Cpl. McDaniel / M - 3592" and the upper right corner "Ro330"

Halter iron. Iron hemisphere is 6.25" in diameter with iron ring attached to the top. This item was used to hitch horses to when no fixed post was available. Carried in buggies, etc.

Human Yoke

Yoke used for gathering sap. Wooden, stained red.
Included with this are a sap yoke (.2), two sap buckets (.3 + .4), this leather belt (.1) and two hooks (.5 + .6). Hand carved yoke with buckets in red stain/paint made by the grandfather of Dr. Herbert S. Carver of Marshfield when Herbert was a boy.
Belt is 72" long and 15/16" wide. It has buckle holes all along it, usually at 3/4" intervals.
The yoke is 37" long and 7 1/2" widest point. The under side is not painted. Edges worn with age and use. The buckets are both 10" dia at top, 11 3/4" at bottom and 10 1/2" high. The hooks are both 6 7/8" long and slightly different. .6 has a leather piece (part of a strap) on the ring end, it is also very rusty. .5 is silver colored metal and is flaking slightly, it also has the smaller hook of the two.

White River Jct., Vt. A blue/green glass jar that contained horse radish. The rectangular base comes up straight to beyond the label where it narrows to a round nect of 1.625" diam. The label reads "TRADEMARK/ Absolutley Pure/ GREEN/MOUNTAIN/BRAND/HORSERADISH/ NET WEIGHT 6OZS..." the bottle is fairly clean. The label has a few losses.

Wood handle, iron head pick-shaped at one end, widening to a 1" square bar at other end with letter "V" deeply cut for striking the butts of logs. Owner's logs could thus be itentified and sorted at the end of the river drive. The company owner was VanDyke, thus the "V".

Owned by Winfield Scott Schoppe in Canaan, Vermont. Schoppe was woods boss of a logging crew in Canaan for The Connecticut Valley Lumber Co., and was rear boss on the last river drive in 1915.

Milk Strainer

Large aluminum funnel used for straining milk as it was poured into milk cans. The top is about 12" in diameter, and it narrows to 5.5" with 2 metal straining disks in the bottom, held by metal spring hoop. Entire device is 8.5" high.

"Charles Willard Phipard was born Aug. 5, 1916, in New York City, the son of Dr.
Willard Phipard and Hazel (Dealing) Phipard.
Charles and his sister Helen spent many summers of their youth with their great-aunt and great-uncle, Cora Gero Munsell and Dr. Chauncy Munsell in South Royalton, Vermont.
Charles Phipard received his elementary education at Poly Prep Day School in
Brooklyn, N.Y., the school attended by his father and grandfather. He attended Wesleyan
University and Upsala College, graduating with degrees in business and economics. He
was a member of the Delta Upsilon national fraternity and served in the U.S. Army Air
Force during World War II; most of his time was spend in Canada as a weather observer.
After his discharge he returned home to Long Island and worked in the
experimental department of Sperry Gyroscope. In 1956 he moved to Royalton, Vermont,
to be near his sister and purchased a farm on Waterman Road where he raised chickens.
Charles Phipard was a charter member of the Heartland Lions Club, where he
served as treasurer for many years. He was active as a Boy Scout leader, a member of the
Sons of the American Revolution, and for many years was State Commissioner and
Treasurer for Babe Ruth Baseball. He died August 7, 2002. "

" Barre Gray Granite was used extensively in the early 1800’s for millstones, paving stones and home and building construction. It was at that time that Robert Parker became Barre’s first professional quarryman and the first granite manufacturer. Slowly, but steadily the granite industry grew, causing Barre’s population to expand to 2,012 by the year 1830. A few years later the industry would get a tremendous boost with the contract for a new Vermont Statehouse to be built of Barre Gray granite in Montpelier, VT. It was the first major building project to use Barre granite. Then, in 1875, the railroad came to town, giving Barre access to the markets of the world.

In the 1880’s, Barre experienced a technological boom. Emery L. Smith, who later became the first mayor of Barre City, pioneered new quarrying technology, including a permanent derrick, electrically detonated explosives, the steam drill and the pneumatic plug drill. Electricity came to the region in 1885, giving rise to power cutting, polishing, surfacing, carving and stone transferring with overhead cranes.

With rapid growth in the granite industry, immigrants began flooding into Barre, and by 1890 the population had more than to 6,790. The first workers to arrive were Scots, followed by Italians, Scandinavians, Spanish, English, Irish, Greeks, and French-Canadians. When an order for 10 million hand-cut paving stones for the city of Troy, New York, was received, this gave Barre’s granite industry a big boost in the 1890’s. At that time about 40 quarries were cutting granite, primarily for monuments and memorials, and by 1902 Barre became the Granite Center of the World, with 68 quarries producing granite valued at more than $1.5 million."

Stereoscope

Stereoscope with a folding handle on the bottom. The stereoscope consists of a metal oval section with glass lenses, a central blinder, and an adjustable base for holding stereo view cards. The bottom of the viewer reads, "THE PERFECSCOPE TRADE MARK U.S.A. PATENT OCT. 15, 1895". The top of the viewer is marked, "EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE INTERNATIONALE. 1900 H.C. White Co." It is accompanied by a stereograph labeled, "California Big Trees".

Still Bank

Still bank in the form of a Vermont Castings, Inc., Defiant wood stove. Has four legs and has the outline of doors on the front and on the side panels. Imprinted at the top on each side panel: "DEFIANT" and on the back along the bottom: "VERMONT CASTINGS INC". All sides, the top, and the bottom are cast separately and are puzzled together and held in place by a long bolt inserted into the bottom and threaded into the top interior. The coin slit is inside the short chimney.
