Although League programs and services are available to any Vermont collecting organization, institutional membership in the Vermont Historical Society is strongly encouraged. Membership helps support the many forms of assistance offered by the League Program to the local historical societies, museums and heritage organizations throughout the state.

Traveling Exhibit Program

The Vermont Historical Society’s new Traveling Exhibit program offers low-cost, professional displays on a variety of Vermont history topics perfect for your historical society, museum, or community institution. These self-contained panel exhibitions can be used alone, or augmented with items from your own collections. Backstory: Vermont

Vermont Historical Society has partnered with the Center for Research on Vermont and the UVM History Department on the Backstory program, which aims to connect UVM students with learning opportunities at local historical societies and museums around the state. The Vermont History Trivia kit is available to historical societies, museums, libraries, and other cultural or nonprofit institutions to use for a fun, lighthearted program that can appeal to a range of audiences. Local History Achievement Awards Program

Every year the Vermont Historical Society presents the League of Local Historical Societies & Museums Achievement Awards. These awards recognize the exceptional work being done by individuals and community heritage organizations throughout the state to collect, preserve and share Vermont’s rich history. This year's Awards will be presented in conjunction with the VHS Annual Meeting on September 29 in Montpelier. 

Nominations for the 2019 Awards will be considered for projects that were undertaken or completed during the period from July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019, as well as for individual achievement over an extended period of time.
