Vermont History Day Teacher Workshop

In affiliation with National History Day, this inquiry-based educational program encourages students to develop their research and critical thinking skills through the study of history. Elevate student voices through this unique, project-based opportunity!

The Vermont Historical Society is hosting a workshop for new and experienced teachers focused on Vermont History Day.

Support students as they dive into researching topics of their choice related to the 2024 theme Turning Points in History. Students will then communicate their understandings of their topic through varied presentation options in a public setting. Students must register their projects by March 15 and the Vermont History Day contest itself will be held on Saturday, April 6 at the UVM Davis Center in Burlington. Whether you plan to have your class compete in the state contest, or just hold an in-class contest, Vermont History Day provides students with a unique opportunity to learn history by doing history! Lunch will be provided.

Earn 6 professional development hours by participating in this workshop where you will learn about Vermont History Day and its components.

Danielle Harris-Burnett and Meg Mallory will cover topics inclusive but not limited to:

  • A Year in the Life of a VHD Teacher
  • How to guide students through the research process
  • Crafting a strong thesis
  • Where to find sources

Registration deadline for this workshop is January 5, 2024.
