Seed School

six bowls filled with different seeds on a blanket

I want the best of all for when these young seeds grow, they are going to need you (the people listening), as they need the sunshine, the joy of the universe…Wabanaki Prayer for the Seeds (Traditional)

The Seeds of Renewal Project‘s introductory “Seed School” is designed for farmers, gardeners, anthropologists, and people generally interested in food systems.  This introduction to the 50+ distinctive Wabanaki crops indigenous to our region includes information on the cultivars’ probable origins, and what is currently known about sources for seeds, planting, nurture, harvest, and seed saving. Also included will be a listing of seed sources and tips on selecting planting sites.

It is taught by Dr. Frederick M. Wiseman, an ethnobotanist with experience in desert Southwest, Mexico, Central America and Wabanaki horticultural systems. He is the author of The Seven Sisters… (2018), the definitive work on Wabanaki food systems.

The program is free, but space is limited and registration is required.
