LLHSM Fall 2024 Workshops

Workshop

This fall we are offering two half-day workshops for local historical societies and museums. In the morning, we will explore promoting yourself in your community and ideas for strategic communications. In the afternoon, we'll provide an introduction in how to build energized collections. Both workshops will take place at the Vermont History Center, 60 Washington St, Barre, VT. You can register for one or both! The workshops are free thanks to generous support provided by the Alma Gibbs Donchian Foundation. Space will be limited.

Building Your Local History Presence
9:30 am to 12:30 pm
October 7, 2024

It can be tough these days to grab people’s attention. In this half-day workshop, we’ll explore strategies for increasing your organization’s “social capital” as well as ways you can communicate and engage with your community. Come prepared to work on your goals, community identity, and action plans. The workshop will be largely focused on both individual and group exercises to help you improve your organization’s presence. Multiple people from an organization are encouraged to attend.

Active Collections Mini-Workshop
1:30 to 3:30 pm
October 7, 2024

Unsure what you should collect and what you might be able to deaccession? Want to make your collections work for you, rather than you working for the collections? Explore new practices in collections management and stewardship, with a focus on strategies for small historical societies, in this introductory workshop to the principles of the Active Collections movement. This workshop will be helpful for organizations who may be interested in participating in our upcoming Activating 21st Century Local History Training Program.

Registration: Free! thanks to support from the Alma Gibbs Donchian Foundation.
