Home Movie Day

Home Movie Day

Home Movie Day is an annual international celebration of amateur films and filmmaking. HMD events provide the opportunity for individuals and families to see and share their own home movies with an audience of their community, and to see their neighbors’ in turn. It’s a chance to discover why to care about these films and to learn how best to care for them.

10:00 am -12:30 pm
Bring your 16mm, 8mm, or Super 8 films to the Vermont History Museum. Learn about archiving and preserving your home movies! Archivists will check the condition of your films to make sure they can be projected and answer any questions you might have about how to care for them.

12:30 - 1:30 pm
Lunch break.

1:30 - 3:00 pm
Reconvene at the Savoy Theater to view your films on the big screen. The afternoon screening will include the world premiere of the digitized version of “The Epic Journey,” shot by Allen Gilbert as he drove across the country in his VW Bus in 1970. Gilbert will attend the screening and offer live commentary.

Please RSVP sos.vhrp@vermont.gov or 802-622-4092.

HMD is brought to you by the Vermont Historical Society, the Vermont Historical Records Program, the Center for Home Movies, the Savoy Theater, and the Jonh M. Bissell Foundation, Inc.
