Program Assistant

The Vermont Historical Society is seeking a Program Assistant to fill a part-time position based at the Vermont History Center in Barre.
The ideal candidate will be energetic, outgoing, and detail-oriented, comfortable with public speaking and working with a wide variety of researchers, speakers, educators, and the general public. They will have an interest in history and Vermont, and be excited about connecting people to the story of Vermont. They will also be flexible, creative, and able to think on their feet.

This position will be scheduled for 28 hours per week, and pay scale will reflect the State of Vermont Pay Grade level 16, with a starting pay of $15.82/hour. The position is not eligible for benefits, but will earn vacation, personal days, and sick days on a prorated schedule per Vermont Historical Society policies.

Education Intern

The Vermont Historical Society is seeking an Education Intern during the 2019 spring semester. The Education Intern will have the opportunity to gain a wide variety of practical experience working at the Vermont History Museum in Montpelier. Working closely with the Museum & Education Manager, the Education Intern will assist with the coordination and implementation of the Vermont History Day competition and other education programs. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with children and adults, be detail oriented and able to work independently. Applicants should be undergraduate or graduate students with an interest in history, education, museum studies, American studies, or similar fields. The internship consists of 15-20 hours per week for 12-15 weeks. A small stipend is available. Applicants should submit a cover letter and resume to by January 11, 2019.

History for Homeschoolers Co-Teacher

The Vermont Historical Society is seeking to hire a co-teacher for the Thursday sessions of the monthly History for Homeschoolers classes at the Vermont History Museum in Montpelier. The classes are scheduled from 1:00-3:00 on the 2nd Wednesday and Thursday of each month, September through May. See the History for Homeschoolers page for dates and content. Pay is $50.00 per session. Lesson plans will be provided.

Preferred qualities include: an interest in working with homeschool families, flexibility to engage students ages 5-13, knowledge of Vermont history, and a willingness to commit to the series of classes.
