The VHS offices, library, heritage galleries and book nook store are located in the Vermont History Center, a historic building which was originally the Spaulding School, built in 1892.
Leahy Library
Hours:
- Tuesday–Friday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
- Wednesday 9:00 am to 8:00 pm
- Second Saturdays 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

From the North
Get off of Interstate 89 at Exit 7.- Take Route 62 through two sets of lights and move into the left lane.
- Go through the third light. At the split, bear left, following Route 62 toward Barre and toward Route 302 East.
- Go down a long hill. Near the bottom of the hill, get in the right lane.
- At the next traffic light turn right onto Route 302 East.
- Travel through downtown Barre; continue following 302 East, bearing left at the Y−intersection at the park.
- You should see the Vermont History Center straight ahead of you and a little to the left. It is the red brick Spaulding school building. Please see parking information below.
From the South
- Get off of Interstate 89 at Exit 6.
- Take Route 63 east down a long hill.
- At the bottom of the hill turn left on Route 14 North.
- Travel through downtown Barre. After seeing the Post Office on your left, get in the right lane and go around the park to turn right onto Route 302 East.
- You should see the Vermont History Center straight ahead of you and a little to the left. It is the red brick Spaulding school building. Please see parking information below.
Parking
- Turn left onto Academy Street in front of the statue of Robert Burns.

- You can park on Academy Street and walk to the Vermont History Center, or turn right before hte large park and continue driving to Mount Street, where you should turn right.
- Turn right again onto Washington Street. The Vermont History Center is on your right.
- You can park on the street heading west on Route 302 toward downtown Barre; there is handicapped parking next to the building off of Washington Street.

The Vermont History Museum is located on the first floor of the Pavilion Building at 109 State Street next door to the Vermont State House in Montpelier. The VHS offices, Heritage Galleries and Leahy Library are located in nearby Barre, Vermont. There are many places to stay in Barre, Berlin, and Montpelier.
Directions
- The Vermont History Museum is just off I−89. Take exit 8 and turn left onto Taylor Street before the gas station at the third traffic light (the first one is usually blinking).
- Start looking for a parking space on the street.
- At State Street, turn left toward the State House or right toward downtown Montpelier.
Parking
Parking is in metered places along the street or in public parking lots in downtown. The Museum is in the brick building with two-story porches on State Street opposite Taylor Street. The side and back doors (along Gov. Davis Avenue) are handicapped accessible; restrooms are just inside our front door.
