VHS Location 2
Second State House, 1851-1857
Ammi Young's 1833 plans for the state's new capitol building show a space for the state's "cabinet," or history collection, on the first floor to the right of the building's main entrance. Whether the VHS ever used this space or not is unclear. In 1851 the Vermont legislature granted the VHS the use of several unoccupied rooms in the State House where it could move materials formerly stored at Henry Stevens's house. Unfortunately, in 1857 a fire destroyed the state's second State House and whatever collections were stored there by the VHS.
