Vermont History Center, 2002 - present
Lacking adequate space in the Pavilion and fearing a repeat of the flood of 1992, the Vermont Historical Society in 2000 purchased the empty Spaulding Graded School in downtown Barre and began restoring it to its original glory. Two years later, in 2002, the Society opened in its eighth location, named the Vermont History Center. The building houses the VHS's library, museum collections, and offices. In 2012 the Society opened new galleries in the Vermont History Center and the same year the state moved its Vermont Heritage Archaeology Center to the building. Today the VHS maintains operations in both the Pavilion Building in Montpelier (location 7) and the Vermont History Center in Barre (location 8).
