Boy with catThe Howard and Alba Leahy Library of the Vermont Historical Society has extensive collections of photographs, postcards, and other images. These collections offer unsurpassed glimpses into Vermont's past. Most of these collections have not been digitized, so a visit to the library is essential to explore the full extent of our photographic resources.

While most of the collections in our library have not been digitized, several options exist for browsing portions of our collections online.

  • Several of our glass plate negative collections have been scanned and loaded onto Flickr, a photo sharing site. Follow the links to the left to browse these and other photo collections.
  • Our online exhibit, Freedom and Unity, is illustrated with some of our best images, as are other online exhibits on this web site.
  • Many of our images are viewable on the Landscape Change site maintained by the University of Vermont Department of Geology

If you are interested in aiding the VHS in our digitization efforts, click here to read about our volunteer opportunities.
