November 25, 2014–The Barre History Collection, formerly housed in the Aldrich Public Library, has recently been added to the Vermont Historical Society's collection. The VHS will care for the collection at the Vermont History Center in Barre.
The collections include artifacts and archival materials gathered by the Barre Historical Society between 1915 and 1979, as well as later additions.
In all, over 230 linear feet of archival holdings are included—personal papers, organizational and business records, photographs and other items that document life in the "Granite Capital," accompanied by hundreds of artifacts that were made and used by residents of Barre. Both the Aldrich and the VHS describe the collaboration as a "win/win."
We need to raise $18,000 to fund the supplies and processing which will bring these important collections to the public. Please click here to learn more about the Barre Collection.
