The Darlings of Vermont's Northeast Kingdom
This family portrait tells the story of the remarkable Darlings, the "pioneers and princes" of East Burke from 1812 to 1986. The Darlings family owned and operated 9,000 acres on the Burke-Lyndon town line, and left a legacy to both town far beyond the famed manor house known as Burklyn Hall. Their philanthropic generosity ranged from donating land for Darling State Forest Park, to saving an old one-room school for a museum, to bequeathing the Burke Mountain Clubhouse and Library and a dance casino for public use.
