Historical Significance

Lucy Burnap was born on April 17, 1791 in Jamaica, Vermont. She established a school and taught young ladies in Barnard, Vermont for 12 weeks between January and April 1814. In April she moved to Woodstock, Vermont where she again established a school for young ladies. Lucy established the first Sunday School in Windham in 1816. Lucy married Major Joseph Wood, Jr. on August 12, 1820 in Windham, Vermont.

She wrote the history of Windham, Vermont for the Vermont Historical Gazetteer. She died March 23rd, 1888 in Townshend, Vermont.
