Historical Significance

Julie Wolcott, her partner Stephen MacCausland, and her family run Greenwind Farm in Fairfield, Vermont. They have a grass-based conventional dairy farm of 50 registered Jersey cattle. Before buying the land over 20 years ago, Wolcott had no farming experience. Now, she and her family have expanded the farm with a maple-sugaring operation and a strawberry field.

Wolcott is active in the Fairfield community. Her contributions include gardening initiatives, bringing healthy, local foods to the kitchens of community schools, and advancing the construction and integration of an outdoor classroom/greenhouse/sugarhouse on Fairfield School grounds.

She is an active member of the Fairfield School Board since 1994. She also collaborates with the Northeast Organic Farming Association Farm-to-School Mentor through their 'FEED' program.

She was an Act 250 District 6 Environmental Commission Member from 1995 to 2005 and a member of the Vermont Council on Rural Development's Agriculture Viability Council from 2002 to 2003.

The couple have four children who help work the farm.
