Katie Taylor was born and Canada and did not become an American citizen until marrying in 1900 at the at of 23. She served a dozen years in the Vermont House of Representatives.

Katie Taylor was born a Canadian, growing up on Prince Edward Island and attending high school there before marrying J.H. Taylor in Burlington, MA in 1900. The couple moved to Searsburg, VT in 1914 and later moved to Somerset, VT.
In 1925, Taylor was voted into the Vermont House of Representatives as a Republican and served there for twelve years, until 1937. While in the House she sponsored several bills, served on many legislative committees and served as the chair of the library, conservation & development, and mileage & debentures committes. Taylor also served as an official on the Vermont Order of Women Legislators (OWLS), formed in 1936.
Along with her service to the state, the Taylor family also had a long history of service to the town of Somerset over the years, as Taylor served as town clerk, treasurer, selectman, lister,school director, and health officer while her husband served
as selectman, constable, lister, road commissioner, town agent, and fire warden.
