Date of Birth02/01/1935
Eleanor Tatro is a charter member and has served as the treasurer of the Barnard Historical Society since its creation in 1977. She was born at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph, Vermont on February 1, 1935, the daughter of Lee Vernley Ward and Gertrude Dartt Ward. She is the oldest of six children. Her siblings are Vernley (Sonny) Ward, Leona Webster, Vivian Webster, Victor (Teddy) Ward and Ralph Ward.
Eleanor has kept important documents such as pictures, newsprint articles, and letters about Barnard's history since the start of the Historical Society. The Historical Society has a complete genealogy section and many artifacts from Barnard's early agricultural days. The first location of the Barnard Historical Society was the Universalist Church. They soon moved to the basement of the Charles Danforth Public Library and, in 2005, they made the move to the current building. The current Historical Society building is the former one room village school house. The school house was willed to the Historical Society by Lois Larcom Horne at the time of her death. Horne was a retired school teacher from Massachusetts that used the school house as a summer home. Horne wintered in a home in Woodstock. Horne did not alter the school house inside or out during the time she owned it. The Historical Society has made every effort possible to keep the building original as it was during its use as a school. In the days before getting the old school house that is now the Historical Society, Tatro often kept articles at her own home. Tatro has donated countless hours to the collection of genealogy that is housed at the Historical Society.
Tatro has lived in Barnard her entire life. She received a Governor's Award from Governor Jim Douglas in 2007 for her dedication to preserving Barnard's history.
Tatro married Peter Rotta in 1952 and they had two sons, Craig Scott Rotta (dob 04/21/1955) and Randy Lee Rotta (dob 10/27/1958). They divorced in 1958.
Tatro married Kenneth Peter Tatro in 1967 and they had two daughters, Kim Tatro White (dob 9/24/1967) and Kelly Tatro Vigue (dob 9/30/1974).
Tatro has worked as a gardener for Lili Charlotte Sarnoff (aka Lolo Sarnoff) since about 1965.
