Elizabeth Ross was born in Pomfret, VT on March 31, 1917. In June 1937, she graduated from Green Mountain College with a business major.
After graduating from college, Ross completed her law clerkship with Loren A. Pierce and was admitted to the Vermont Bar in 1943. Elizabeth Ross became the twenty-third woman admitted to the Bar in Vermont.
Ross continued working for Pierce until 1952, when she went into general practice with Franklin S. Billings. In 1967, she went into private practice, focusing on estate planning and probate. She remained in private practice until 1987, when she retired.
Besides being an attorney, Ross was also a trustee of Vermont Law School and of Vermont Public Radio.
In "Celebrating Vermont's First 100 Women Lawyers" Ross is quoted encouraging new women lawyers to "be an all-around person. Find a hobby that is enjoyable and pursue it. Treat law as the profession it is, not just the means to earning a living."
