Historical Significance

Carol Moore is the 13th President of Lyndon State College. She grew up in Kearney, New Jersey. After graduating from high school, she went on to study science at Montclair State College (now Montclair State University) in Montclair, NJ, graduating in 1967 with a B.A. in Biology and a minor in Physical Science. From 1967-1971, Moore taught high school science and, in 1972, received a M.A. in Biology, with a concentration in Marine Biology also from Montclair State. From there, she became a college professor of biology at Massasoit Community College in Brockton, Massachusetts. After achieving the level of Ph.D. in Marine Biology at Northeastern University in 1981, Dr. Moore later rose through the college ranks in various academic leadership roles.

Dr. Moore served as Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs from 1983-1984 at Massasoit Community College before becoming the Dean of Academic Affairs at Lasell College in Newton, Massachusetts from 1984-1988. From 1988-1991 she was the Dean of the Undergraduate School at Lesley College in Cambridge, Massachusetts and from 1992-1998 she was the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York. In 1998, Dr. Moore became the 13th president of Lyndon State College, one of only six women to hold that position since 1947 when the presidency of LSC was established.

Throughout her career in education, Dr. Moore has been actively involved in numerous professional organizations. Some examples are the New England Board of Higher Education, the Vermont Higher Education Council, the American Association of State Colleges & Universities, and the American Council on Education Commission on Women in Higher Education. Dr. Moore has presented more than 20 scientific and educational papers at conferences and seminars. She has also been published in a variety of scientific and educational publications. In 2007, Dr. Moore was honored with the Sister Elizabeth Candon Distinguished Service Award.
