Historical Significance

Patricia Ann Orye entered the naval reserve for the reserve officer candidate program (ROC) in 1952. She trained during the summers of 1952 and 1953 and was commissioned (Ensign) USNR in 1954 upon graduating from college. She served on Active Duty in the Office of Naval Intelligence (Washington, D.C., Pentagon Office), 1954-1957; 1961-1963. She served on Reserve Duty 1957-1961, returning to Active Duty and became a Lieutenant in 1961. She served in the Office of Naval Intelligence Investigative Branch in the Pentagon. She dealt with a variety of criminal investigations and was responsible for setting out leads for investigations to other offices in other commands and reviewing completed investigations.

She married in 1962 and resigned her commission in 1963, because one could not remain in the military with dependents under the age of 18. She raised two children and worked as an office manager for a ski lodge, as well as other retail positions.
