Dr. Roberta Coffin served as the Commissioner of Health during Governor Richard Snelling's and Governor Madeleine Kunin's administrations.

Coffin was born on December 20, 1932 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was raised in Illinois. She received a B.S. in Physical Education from the University of Illinois and an MD from the Case Western Reserve Medical School in Cleveland, Ohio, where her focus was pediatrics. She came to Vermont in 1970 and began working for the Department of Health in 1973 as the Director of Medical Services. Governor Richard Snelling appointed her Commissioner of Health in 1983, and she continued in this position under Governor Madeleine Kunin. Coffin left her position in September 1989 and was named to an administrative post at the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont, where she was in charge of women's and children's services. She has since retired. She has been a member of the Vermont Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Ambulatory Pediatric Association, the Vermont State Medical Society and the American Public Health Association. Coffin is currently a member of the National Association of Retired Physicians and the Lake Champlain Yacht Club.
