Professional Development

The Vermont Historical Society offers professional development opportunities for teachers focusing on teaching Vermont history, using primary sources in the classroom, the National History Day programs, and guiding student research.

 

Current Workshops:

Plymouth, VT
Vermont on the National Stage: An Inquiry Lab

A course for teachers that uses the inquiry method to explore Vermont and United States history.

 

Held at the new Museum and Education Center at the President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site in Plymouth Notch, VT.

 

August 10 - 12 (Tuesday - Thursday) with two follow-up days in November and March

$375 OR $565 with two graduate credits from St. Michael's College.  Lunch included each day.

The library & museum are free for teachers' planning needs.
Research visits

Teachers planning units or previewing a field trip may use our research library or museum for free. The VHS research library in Barre contains thousands of photographs, books, posters, maps and other documents that tell the stories of Vermont. Selected materials can be reproduced to enrich your classroom instruction.
