At a time when Vermonters, especially our youth, need a sense of place, we have to find a way to tell the stories of our local communities' history so they can be preserved, cherished, and passed on to the next generation.

Beginning in 2001, the Vermont Historical Society began the Community History Partnership (CHP) program as a way to support collaborations of local historical societies and schools in their communities. Through the CHP program, schools and communities develop a working relationship and projects that fit the needs of their community. There is no one single template for this program. Rather, each community chooses how their partnership will unfold and, with the added support of the Vermont Historical Society, each group begins to create projects and programs that are in line with the character of their community.
