The Vermont Historical Society provides access to a collection of digital Sanborn fire insurance maps from Vermont for the period 1867-ca. 1948 for its members. Sanborn maps show detailed footprints of buildings in settled areas of the state; they do not cover rural areas or indicate the names of residents.

These maps are viewable by our members. Use your e-mail address as your username and your membership number as your password. (If your membership number has a "dot" in it, the first part of the number should be converted to a 4-digit year starting with "20" or "200"; e.g., 7.123 becomes 2007.123 and 10.456 becomes 2010.456) Contact the Leahy Library at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 802-479-8509 during library business hours if you need additional information.

The VHS library also has a physical collection of Sanborn maps. Come to the library to see these wonderful maps in person!
