Students in a mixed-age (grades 7-12) service learning class at the Vermont Commons School worked with the South Burlington Land Trust on a project documenting changes to South Burlington’s landscape over the past century. The project included conducting archival research, interviewing long-time residents, and documenting sites of historic interest in South Burlington. Students created a website that makes this data available to students, residents and planners. The website included an interactive map that allowed browsers to view historical locations throughout South Burlington, as well as the history behind them. Additionally, students worked on a full-length video-documentary telling the story of South Burlington through existing oral histories and interviews with town historians.
